What a night for Denmark’s most beloved queen.
Queen Margrethe was the star of the show Saturday as ALT for damernes threw itself an 80th birthday bash at the Opera House — and presented Her Majesty with a very special honorary prize.
The actual handover happened a few days earlier at Fredensborg Palace, where editor-in-chief Heidi Frederikke Sigdal was received for a short ceremony. Her gift? Eight decades of ALT magazines, which the Queen flipped through with a huge smile.
And the surprises kept coming: artist Nikoline Liv Andersen handed over the original of her “Dronning Margrethe” portrait — the same artwork on the cover of the anniversary issue.
Sigdal’s tribute said what all of Denmark was thinking: Margrethe reigned “with respect, innovation and Her Majesty’s very own style.” She said it at Fredensborg, then said it again at the Opera House — and the applause said the rest.
Happy 80th, ALT. And congratulations, Your Majesty — nobody deserves it more.
